WHY DO I NEED A PRESSURE TANK IN A BOOSTER SYSTEM?

Pressure tanks are used for reliable storage of pressurized water in a booster pump system by releasing it’s stored volume of pressurized water on demand, the pressure tank prevents pump startups for demands lower than its storage capacity.

WHY DO I NEED A CONTROLLER WITH MY SINGLE PUMP PURCHASE?

By adding a pump controller, a single pump can be converted into a pressure system for automatic water distribution and pressure boosting. The controller provides efficient operation and protection of the pump.

We offer our own range of pump controllers such as LogicPress, LogicPress Plus and LogicStart with the following features:

  • Suitable for 115V or 230V, 50Hz or 60Hz power supply
  • Automatic start-stop operation of the pump when taps open or close
  • Protection from dry-run, low flow, loss-of-prime and closed head conditions
  • Automatic restart cycles in case of emergency shut-down and anti-jam function
  • No need for expansion tank, check valve, filter or additional fittings
WHAT IS THE CAPACITY (Q) OF A PUMP?

Also known as flow rate, the capacity Q is the volume of moved liquid delivered by a pump in the time unit. And usually is measured in:

  • Litres per second (l/s)
  • Litres per minute (l/min)
  • Ccubic meters per hour (m3/h)
  • Imperial gallons per minute (Igpm) or
  • US gallons per minute ( US gpm)

Flowing fluids are characterized by a quantity called the flow rate, which is defined as the volume of fluid flowing through an area each time unit. In a pipe or other enclosed region, the flow rate can be expressed in terms of the fluid speed and the cross-sectional area of the pipe.

The flow rate (Q) of a water pump is the useful volume flow delivered by the pump via its outlet.

WHAT IS HEAD?

Simply stated: Head is the height to which a pump can lift water against gravity. This can be determined by fixing a
vertical tube to the discharge of a pump and measure the water height. That’s the head of the pump.

What does total head mean?

Simply put, it is the sum of the pressure required to use the pump plus the pressure drop (head loss) through the system

WHAT ARE POWER RATINGS?

Power ratings show the amount of work performed by the pump motor in a given time. In water pump technology, the concepts of P1 and P2 are frequently used.

The power input (P1) of a centrifugal pump (pump input power) is the mechanical power taken by the pump shaft or coupling from the drive.

The pump output power (P2) is the hydraulic power a water pump can provide.

HOW DO I READ THE WATER PUMP PERFORMANCE CURVES?

Reading and understanding pump curves is an essential skill for anyone involved in specifying any sort of pump. This article provides a ‘quick-start’ guide to getting your head around these important pieces of data.

As with any standard line graph, a pump curve has two axes, a horizontal (“x”) and a vertical (“y”). On a pump curve, the horizontal (“x”) axis shows the flow rate through the pump and the vertical (“y”) axis shows the head, which is sometimes referred to as ‘pressure’.

The curve then gives an indication of the pump’s maximum flow rate for any given head value, or vice versa. Once you have worked out the maximum flow rate and head required in your application, you will be able to determine whether the pump you are looking at will be capable of satisfying your requirements.

All you need to do is plot two lines, a horizontal line across from your required head value, and a vertical line up from your required flow rate value. The point at which these lines intersect is called the duty point. Provided this point is below the curve, as in the example above, you can be sure that the pump is capable of satisfying your requirements. The pump flow rate can be found at the centre of the curve

WHAT IS WATER PRESSURE?

The measure of water pressure indicates the force that delivers water to your pipes. Water Pressure may vary according to a number of aspects, including, but not limited to the Number and Distance of Duty Points, the distance between the water source and the water outlet, and the required head / flow rate.

WHAT IS THE IDEAL WATER PRESSURE?

The ideal water pressure completely depends on your application.
Get in touch with us for your specific requirements and we can advise you what pressure you need.

HOW DO I MEASURE WATER PRESSURE?

All our packaged booster pump sets come pre-fitted with a pressure gauge in the discharge manifold to provide you with a clear indication of your current water pressure
